A new electric vehicle fast-charger was unveiled Wednesday in Sturgeon Lake, completing what officials say is an “all-electric highway from the Twin Cities to the North Shore.”

The new charger is at Doc’s Sports Bar & Grill, just off Interstate 35 at the Sturgeon Lake exit. Officials from charger owner ZEF Energy, Lake Country Power, Great River Energy, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Doc’s Sports Bar & Grill were on hand Wednesday to cut the ribbon.

“The fast-charging EV charger completes the link that allows travelers in electric vehicles to recharge quickly at various points along the way (from the Twin Cities) to the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior,” Lake Country Power reported in a news release.

Among the other charging stations on the route is the Endion Station Solar Canopy in Duluth.

“As more Minnesotans make the switch to electric vehicles, I’m certain we’ll see even more charging stations pop up throughout the state to offer a convenient way to charge up,” Jeff Sheldon, manager of energy services and business development for Lake Country Power, said in a news release.

Lake Country Power also offers an off-peak program for members to charge their electric vehicles during overnight hours.
